Ezekiel’s War, also known as the Battle of Gog and Magog refers to prophecy found int the book of Ezekiel chapters 38–39. It is said by many Bible prophecy scholars to be a future, apocalyptic global conflict that will occur in the Middle East. The war is prophesied to ignite in the specifically after the Jewish people have been regathered into the modern State of Israel and when the nation is experiencing a period of perceived peace and security in “unwalled villages”.
A massive, overwhelming coalition of nations will form a strategic military alliance to launch a surprise invasion of Israel to seize wealth and plunder. The alliance is led by a mysterious figure named Gog, ruler of Magog. Modern interpretations of the biblical territories include:

- Magog, Meshech, and Tubal: Broadly identified as Russia (coming from the “uttermost parts of the north”).
- Persia: Modern-day Iran.
- Cush and Put: Territories corresponding to modern Sudan, Ethiopia, and Libya.
- Gomer and Beth-togarmah: Broadly identified as modern Turkey
According to the prophecy, Israel’s military will not defeat this force. Instead, God will supernaturally destroy the invading armies right as they cross into the mountains of Israel. The destruction is described as an apocalyptic event involving a massive earthquake, torrential rain, giant hailstones, fire, brimstone, and internal chaos where the enemy soldiers turn on one another.
The primary purpose of this future war is to manifest God’s power globally, causing all nations to recognize Him and the scale of the military defeat is massive:
