“I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord.” Ezekiel 38:22-23 (NIV)
If you are a Believer, then you have likely heard in a sermon or read in your Bible, that Gog (a ruler), of the nation, Magog, will lead a coalition of other nations in an attack on Israel. This war will be a full-scale assault on Israel who will be so outnumbered that it would be impossible for Israel to defend itself. God wants it this way.
Instead of Israel or any allies it may have defending themselves, God defends them supernaturally in spectacular and devastating ways. God states that His purpose is for mankind to be humbled with the ultimate hope of restoration to Himself.
How God Responds to Magog’s (Russia) Attack on Israel
In the latter days of the Church Age (the age we are presently living in), Gog (a ruler) leads a coalition of forces to invade, destroy and plunder Israel. The invasion is said to be like a cloud covering the earth, and the forces will plunder and loot the cities. Many Jewish people will die, but God will ultimately preserve a remnant for Himself.
In Ezekial 39:1-10 God declares He will decimate 2/3rds of Maygog, and that he will destroy their homelands as well so that they will never be able to launch such an attack again.
In other words, God will destroy the homelands of invaders as well as they invaders on the battlefield.
Ezekial 39:1-10:
“Son of dust, prophesy this also against Gog. Tell him: 1 “‘I stand against you, Gog, leader of Meshech and Tubal. 2 I will turn you and drive you toward the mountains of Israel, bringing you from the distant north. And I will destroy 85 percent of your army in the mountains. 3 I will knock your weapons from your hands and leave you helpless. 4 You and all your vast armies will die upon the mountains. I will give you to the vultures and wild animals to devour you. 5 You will never reach the cities—you will fall upon the open fields; for I have spoken, the Lord God says. 6 And I will rain down fire on Magog and on all your allies who live safely on the coasts, and they shall know I am the Lord.
7 “‘Thus I will make known my holy name among my people Israel; I will not let it be mocked at anymore. And the nations, too, shall know I am the Lord, the Holy One of Israel. 8 That day of judgment will come; everything will happen just as I have declared it.
9 “‘The people of the cities of Israel will go out and pick up your shields and bucklers, bows and arrows, javelins and spears, to use for fuel—enough to last them seven years. 10 For seven years they will need nothing else for their fires. They won’t cut wood from the fields or forests, for these weapons will give them all they need. They will use the possessions of those who abused them.
Ezekial 39:11-20 God slays so many that it will take Israel seven months to bury the dead and seven years to burn their weapons. There are so many bodies that God provides a cemetery and allows birds and animals to gorge on the bodies to help with the clean up process.
Why God Destroys Magog Himself
In the biblical narrative, God chooses to destroy Magog Himself to demonstrate His power, judgment, and protection over Israel. This divine intervention serves as a clear message that ultimate sovereignty belongs to God and that He actively defends His people against their enemies.
- Demonstration of Divine Judgment
- Display of God’s Wrath and Power
- Protect Israel
How God Supernaturally Intervenes and Stops Magog and its Alliances from Destroying Israel
The following Bible verses highlight God’s direct involvement in the defeat of Magog, emphasizing His ultimate authority and commitment to safeguard His chosen people, Israel. By stepping in Himself, God not only punishes those who oppose Him but also reassures His followers of His unwavering presence and power in times of crisis.
God never does things half-way or half-heartedly. His response will be swift, devastating and dramatic.

Among the various nations mentioned in biblical prophecies, Russia frequently emerges as a significant player in the apocalyptic narrative. As the United States has now taken a strong supportive position in favor of Russia over its own allies, perhaps Believers should take a look at what this alliance may mean in terms of Biblical prophecy.
